The number of students scored the perfect cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0 in 2012 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination has increased compared to 2011. In 2012, 51,673 students sat for STPM.

A total of 442 candidates (0.86%) received a CGPA of 4.0 compared to 300 candidates (0.59%) in the previous year. Meanwhile, 47,884 or 92.67% had full passes for at least one subject in STPM, compared to 46,705 or 92.19% in the year earlier.

Those who scored 5As have also increased by six to 18 students. Among the top scorers, 11 students were from the science stream while the rest were from arts stream.

The 2012 STPM examinations was the last to be held under the old format as the Education Ministry decided three years ago to revamp the examination format from having one final exam to include school-based assessments and assessments at the end of every semester.

The first semester results under the new format will be announced on March 21 at 12pm.
