Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the difficulty level of Bahasa Malaysia taught in Tamil and Chinese is expected to be readjusted.

The readjustment would help the students to improve their command of the language and at the same time allow them to be on par with national school students.

"We have received feedback that students at Chinese schools have lamented that the standard of Bahasa Malaysia taught in Chinese schools was high. We hope to reduce the level of difficulty to an acceptable level," he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said he had recently held a meeting with Tamil school teachers and headmasters in Johor.

“I expect to meet the state's Chinese school teachers and headmasters on April 16 to discuss their roles and how to better improve their teaching quality and standards.

“We want to bring them (Chinese and Tamil schools) into the mainstream. These schools are important to their respective communities as the pupils there are being taught in their mother tongue.
