GIS gets international call-up through swimming

Published by SchoolAdvisor | Oct 21, 2016 Garden International School is pleased to announce that one of its students, Revan Senaratne will be competing in the South Asian Aquatic Championships (SAAC) 2016 which will be held in Sri Lanka from 18 - 23 October 2016.

The 14-year-old boy from Sri Lanka will be representing his home country to compete with over 500 athletes from over seven countries, namely Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Revan will be competing in the Under-15 boys category in 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley (IM), 200m freestyle, 4x100m Medley Relay, 4x200m freestyle relay and 4x100m freestyle relay.

“I feel extremely happy and delighted to represent my country at this meet. This is the first time I’ve been chosen to do so and I feel humble and proud,” said Revan who started competitive swimming at nine years old.

Revan was awarded the Janet Rutherfurd Trophy for the High Point scorer (boys) 2015 at the Mantas International Swim Meet in Hong Kong; Under 11-12 High Point Trophy CIS Swim Meet (Hong Kong) 2015; and the U15 Boys Championship at the National Age Group Championships in Sri Lanka 2016.

“Striking a balance with my studies, other sports, family and friends has been a challenge but so far I’ve been able to manage them well. Having great friends around me makes me feel more encouraged and motivated,” said the year-10 student whose ambition is to represent his country at the Olympics.

"Meeting Revan 12 months ago, his drive to be not just good, but exceptional particularly stood out. He continues to find new targets to help him continue his incredible improvement curve. He is a rare breed of individual athlete who strives to do his best for himself, but is equally happy supporting his friends and peers in the team, a great quality," commented GIS Aquatics Director, Richard Molloy.
