GTP 2.0 continues to improve Malaysian education system

Following the successful execution of the first phase, the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) is moving into the second stage.GTP 2.0 targets for the education sector include:

  • reduce urban-rural achievement gaps by 25%
  • scoring international average in Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS)
  • achieve 92% and 10% enrolment respectively in pre-schools and childcare centres
  • implement literacy and numeracy screenings (LINUS) programme 2.0

Under the GTP's National Key Result Area (NKRA), the government, together with the private sector, has set up 6,642 new pre-schools over a three-year period ended 2012.

GTP 2.0 will run from 2013 until 2015.
