The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be announcing an independent panel that is tasked with improving the standard operating procedure of the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) in light of the recent problems arising with leaked exam papers.

Speaking at Putrajaya, the Minister of Education II, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said that the panel will consist of 9 members initially and will provide input as to how best improve the SOP for the exam.

The decision came after a three hour meeting which was chaired by the Minister of Education who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in response to the public outrage over the leaked exam papers.

Some 400,000 students will be retaking the UPSR papers for Science and English at the end of September following circulated photographs of the test papers around social media.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin has previously suggested that the UPSR papers could take a similar approach done with the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) papers which are printed overseas for security reasons.

While the Examination Board’s Director and Deputy director have been suspended pending the official investigation by the authorities, several individuals are been taken in for questioning which included several teachers over the leaked test papers.
