The decision by the Pahang State Education Department to ban the Kuantan Chong Hwa High School from using the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) was countermanded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) yesterday when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Minister of Education I reaffirmed the school’s status as an Independent Chinese High School.

The Ministry has also instructed the state education department to retract the letter banning the school using the curriculum. Chinese Independent High Schools in Malaysia are adminsitered by the Dong Jiao Zhong or nited Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia.

The Kuantan Chong Hwa High School was approved by the MOE in 2012 following a rally of the Chinese community in Kuantan for a Chinese Independent High School.

Costing RM 30 million, the school sits on a 6 hectare campus which will utilise both the UEC and National Curriculum of Malaysia.
