The student intake at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) next year will see the priority given to children from families in the bottom 40% household income group (B40) in rural areas, according to Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.Image result for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.(Pic Source: The Malay Mail Online)He said this is in line with the original objective of the MRSM to provide comfortable and quality education for underprivileged children, especially those in the rural areas.Ismail Sabri said he has been overwhelmed with requests from high-income parents whose children excelled in their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examinations and were willing to pay to have their children pursue their studies at MRSM.As such, he proposed for MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) to consider setting up a paid MRSM school in the Klang Valley. However, he assured the fees will be considerably lower than private and international schools.Earlier this month, the MRSM announced the minimum requirement to enrol into Form One has been loosened with priority given to excellent students from rural and urban poor families, as well as from native groups in Sabah and Sarawak.See also: 3As and 3Bs Sufficient For Entry Into Residential SchoolsRelated imageThe entry into the prestigious MRSM school is highly competitive and the ministry receives thousands of applications each year.
