Malaysia's Minister of Education, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said that the ministry is suggesting for the UPSR format o follow that of PT3's but they will first engage with various stakeholders for feedback this year. Changes will be made once the green light is given by the stakeholders and also a majority of the public and will take in place in one to two years' time.

It was also announced last year that starting this year, students will be required to sit for a minimum of 6 papers instead of 5 since the English language paper would be split into two parts which are comprehension and written to increase the language proficiency rate among students.
