1. Lack of Time

Working parents do not have much time to teach their children. Although some parents have the skills and knowledge but if they have no time to guide their kids, they would opt to hire a tutor.

How a Tutor Can Help

A tutor could develop approaches that use the student's strengths and help them feel less stressed about the subject.

For Science and Maths subjects, tutors will give more exercise and practice to the students including multiplication quiz and also practice on mental arithmetic skills.

2. Lack of Knowledge/Skills

Some parents do not have the knowledge/skills in a certain subject, thus they are not able to guide their children. For example, some parents do not speak Chinese at all, thus they would hire a Chinese language tutor for their children, vice versa if students are from a Chinese speaking background they would need some help in the English language.

How a Tutor Can Help

A tutor can develop a learning strategy for specific problems the student is facing. For example, students who are weak in Chinese languages would benefit from a tutor who could help to enhance their vocabulary by giving more practice in essay writing, constructing sentences and learning correct spelling.

3. Desire to Do Better

Parents want their children to do better in certain subjects. Sometimes children need more clarification or explanation. It would be harder for a teacher with a big class size to do so as teachers have to cover their syllabus according to the school schedule.

How a Tutor Can Help

Tutors are more patient and can afford to devote more time to the students as they teach on a one-on one or small group basis.
