Malaysian government received applications for seven International and four private schools

Bernama has reported that the Education Ministry received applications to set up seven international schools and four private schools as of March 31.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Education Minister, said as at Oct 31 last year, there were 101 international schools in the country with 45,049 students."There are 66 private primary schools with total enrolment of 14,751 students and 70 private secondary schools having 18,286 students until Oct 31, 2014," he said.Muhyiddin also said there were 43 private religious primary schools with total enrolment of 19,848 students and 28 private religious secondary schools with 9,577 students overall.There were also 60 private Chinese secondary school with 83,442 students in the country.On the government's proposal to tighten requirements for the appointment of teachers in private and international schools, Muhyiddin said teachers who teach in this schools are subjected to the rules and regulations under the Education Act 1996. Teaching permits are needed for every teacher who teaches in educational institutions licenced under Section 114 of the Education Act 1996."However, the appointment of teachers in this educational institutions is subject to the qualifications requirements set by the educational institution itself," he said.
