Vernacular school students may be able to skip remove classes

The Education Ministry has relaxed conditions for pupils from primary secondary vernacular schools who wish to skip attending remove class and enrol straight  to Form One in national schools. According to news reports, ministry deputy director-general Datuk Ahmad Tajudin Jab said under a revised rule. those who scored a minimum grade D for Bahasa Malaysia papers 011, 012, 021 and 022 in the recent UPSR exam were now exempted from having to spend a year in remove class.Pupils who failed these subjects but scored at least a grade D in the Bahasa Malaysia papers 031 and 032 in the UPSR exam would also qualify.Ahmad Tajudin, in the latest directive, said pupils who failed to obtain a minimum grade D for Bahasa Malaysia papers would still be able to appeal to skip the remove year. He added students will still be allowed to go straight to Form One next year provided they score a minimum grade D in Bahasa Malaysia in the Penilaian Kemajuan Berasaskan Sekolah (PKBS) while in Year Four, Five and Six.Ahmad Tajudin said vernacular schools should also set up committees and submit names of eligible pupils who could go straight to Form One in national schools to their respective district Education offices.He said pupils must meet the stipulated scores for Bahasa Malaysia to be eligible to enrol straight into Form One. The scores in other subjects will not be considered.The UPSR results, announced last month, saw a total of 4,896 students scoring straight As which made up 1.11% from the total number of students who sat for the exams in early September.There were eight schools that recorded 100 per cent passes. The schools were SJK(T) Pulau Carey Selatan, Kuala Langat; SJK(T) Ladang Kg Baru, Kuala Selangor, SJK(T) Ladang Bukit Ijok; SJK(T) Pulau Carey Barat, Kuala Langat; SMK Meru, Klang; SK Damansara Jaya 2, Petaling Utama; SJK(T) Ladang Hopeful, Kuala Selangor; and SK Tanjong Jawa, Sabak Bernam.Meanwhile, Aathiran Balakrisnan was awarded the Best Performing Student of  UPSR 2016 by the Selangor Education Department representing SJKT Simpang Lima, Klang.Image result for Athira Balakrishnan upsr(Image via: The Malaysian Times)
