What SchoolAdvisor Says

The Independent Enquirer ladder is one element of the GIS learner skills. The introduction of iPads to the school enables GIS students to progress along these ladders by learning via the integration of technology which complements existing teaching formats.

GIS embraces the use of ICT and requires all students in Years 3 to 11 to bring an iPad to school as a tool for enquiry based learning within lessons. GIS holds the award for Apple Distinguished program.

This recognition is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

To cater to students’ safety, GIS is providing increased security for students with the electronic security access control systems and cashless transactions in the school.

School Facts

Garden International School (GIS) is the largest private, co-educational, British international school in Malaysia, with three locations, including a main campus in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, an Early Years Centre in Desa Sri Hartamas and another campus on the East Coast of Malaysia in Kuantan. In total, the school has over 2,200 students representing over 60 nationalities.

GIS has a reputation for academic excellence, placing the success of each student at the centre of our mission. We understand that every student requires more than academic skills to succeed. Therefore we adhere to our Student Vision of developing adaptable lifelong learners, active citizens, effective contributors, resilient individuals, independent enquirers and creative thinkers.

GIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and has been teaching the British International Curriculum to both the local and the expatriate community of Kuala Lumpur since 1951.

Teaching and Learning

GIS’ curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales with varying modifications designed to meet the needs of international students. The British system provides a high quality and broad education which enables students to move to any other English-speaking country fully equipped to succeed.

Providing a holistic education from Nursery to Sixth Form, GIS taught a British based curriculum with an international flavour – preparing them for IGCSE, AS and A-Level examinations.

Upon leaving Garden International School, our 2013 graduates have obtained offers from their first or second choice university, a high proportion are studying at the world’s leading universities.

Apple Distinguished Program:
GIS holds the award for Apple Distinguished program. This recognition is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

Learning outside the classroom In Kuala Lumpur:
One of our goals at Garden International School Kuala Lumpur is to provide our students with a holistic education. We therefore actively encourage school visits and co-curricular activities to help students to develop their talents outside of their academic achievements.

Regular school visits to places relevant to the curriculum serve to stir up our students’ interests in their subjects and provide a first-hand look as to how their learning is related to the practical world.

Libraries:
The libraries are a central part of our international school’s academic life, and each library has dedicated staff to help students, teachers and parents to find the right books and resources they need. Our libraries regularly organise reading events for all to participate and to encourage a love of reading.
