About International School of Penang (Uplands)

The International School of Penang, more commonly known as Uplands, was founded in 1955. The school is a co-educational primary and secondary school and also offers boarding facilities. Today the school boasts 72 qualified teachers who come from 18 countries and a student population of approximately 520.

International School of Penang Uplands offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to 5 to 11-year-olds. It was the first school in Malaysia to be authorised by the IBO to offer their PYP.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 students follow a broad base of studies intended to extend upon previously acquired knowledge and to provide a foundation for their future schooling. Currently, courses for senior students culminate in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Years 10 and 11. All students entering the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) will study for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.

The school also places emphasis on sports, visual and fine arts in its curriculum.

The International School of Penang employs a fully qualified Nurse who is stationed at the school's sick bay and is available on site from 7.45am until 4.45pm, Monday to Friday attending to the needs of any student.

The boarding facilities at the school provides students the option of staying either as weekly boarders or as term boarders. Term boarders are the most common because the students enjoy staying on weekends with their schoolmates to participate in activities and entertainment that they do not get to do during the week. Students are also allowed to come to school on weekend in order to participate in co-curricular classes.
