In Terengganu, if a pilot project at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) is successful, all hospitals in the state will have the facility to enable young patients to attend school while receiving treatment."The state government would propose to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to upgrade the pilot project at the hospital to a "school in a hospital", said Education, Higher Education, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman. The initiative was developed by HSNZ, aided by contributions from Exxon Mobil, to help young paediatric patients to catch up with their lessons at the study room, which could cater to 10 students at a time."Now, it only caters to primary school students, but in the future, it will have facilities for secondary school students as well," he said.

In a year, some 2,000 young patients used the facility, revealed Paediatric Department head Datuk Dr Jimmy Lee Kok Foo. A total of 90 per cent of the children who deployed the facility were thalassemia patients. Ahmad Razif, who is also the state library chairman, said a library in a hospital would also be proposed for HSNZ.
