Chief Minister of Sarawak Tan Sri Adenan Saten called for the building of better schools in the state as the deteriorating conditions of the buildings is impacting education.Adenan has expressed his frustration over the condition of the schools and said that his patience has run out, as requesting assistance to improve the conditions has not worked. He also highlighted that there are schools in Sarawak that still need the basic utilities like water and electricity.Adenan aired the issue in an event to launch a comprehensive Iban-English Dictionary in Kuching Sarawak this week.He also pledged that the time has come for Sarawak's schools to be prioritised in terms of upgrades, facilities and the construction. He said the issue has been on-going for half a century and he can no longer tolerate it and has pushed for a more assertive position in the state's education policy. The state still abides by the national education policies set by the federal government, but the Chief Minister said the that the state government will not keep quiet any longer on the issues concerning education in Sarawak. The lack of urgency to improve the schools in Sarawak is having some serious ramifications on the standards of education in the state and is likely to hinder the growth of education. The state government has also been pushing to change certain aspects in its education policy and is seeking better ways to improve the growth of education standards by implementing amendments catering to its specific needs, including having more Sarawakian teachers to serve in its schools.
