Malaysian women are more proficient in English than men?

According to the EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI), Malaysia is one of the best English speaking countries in Asia. Related image The survey shows that Malaysia has a high proficiency score of 60.70 which ranks the nation number 2 out of 19 countries in Asia. The country is ranked at the 12th spot worldwide. Malaysia has been showing a steady climb in the proficiency survey since it began participating in 2011. The country is now at the 12th spot out of 72 countries

 Untitled1Singapore is ranked first in Asia. It also broke into the top 10, making it the only Asian country in the top 10 dominated by European countries.The Philippines took the 13th spot after Malaysia while India was ranked 22. Meanwhile, South Korea was ranked 27th while Hong Kong 30th.

Also according to the survey, women speak better English than men in almost all countries and age groups and this finding has been consistent across all editions of the EF EPI over the years.

5da1In Malaysia alone, the English proficiency average of females are 61.96%. 2.29% higher than the average of men.Interesting, right?

As a summary, the survey reports these 3 major components

  • English is a key component of economic competitiveness at both the individual and national levels. Higher English proficiency correlates with higher incomes, better quality of life, more dynamic business environments, greater connectivity, and more innovation.
  • Young adults aged 18-25 have the strongest English proficiency worldwide, although some countries have markedly different national trends.
  • For the first time ever, an Asian country, Singapore, is in the highest proficiency band. Malaysia and the Philippines are also in the top 15 countries worldwide.
