Extra insurance coverage for students travelling by school buses

For two-parent working families, the responsibility of sending and fetching their kids from school usually shifts to the grandparents or relatives. Those who can’t get help from their close ones have to resort to school buses, which often raise safety concerns.

Of course, improve driving standard is the best way to keep the children safe but the new insurance scheme introduced by the government can ease the burden of the parents if the unfortunate happens. 

The School Children Insurance Coverage Scheme covers primary and secondary students who travel by licensed school buses. In Malaysia, there are 16,663 registered school buses.

The government has set aside RM 40million in insurance coverage for the scheme, which benefits 1.5million students during 2 January 2013 - 1 January 2014.

The scheme covers students (regardless of nationalities) from all types of schools registered under the Education Ministry, including private and international schools.

*Activities organised by the schools are eligible for the insurance protection.

*Only students in Primary 1 - Form 5 are protected.
