Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the Education Ministry is considering providing laptops to all school students in order to reduce their reliance on textbooks. Muhyddin, who is also the education minister, revealed the plan to Malaysian media after his visit to the Daphne High School in the US.He said that he was attracted by the Alabama-based school's concept where all students are provided with laptops, which have to be returned to the school after the students completed their studies. In 2012, Daphne High School received the National Blue Ribbon School award from the US' Department of Education. The award was given to non-public and public elementary, middle and high schools that have excellent academic achievements. The recognition is similar to Malaysia's high-performance school concept.

He added that Internet facilites such as 4G connection had been installed in schools by the Malaysian government to benefit students. A number of schools already have the facility while others would be getting theirs in 2013.
