HELP International School is pleased to announce that it has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2017-2018 for its innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. The school is commended for its technologically innovative and rigorous learning environment for students and staff through various collaborative efforts with the Apple technology.
Technology used in the right way can transform learning
“The selection of HELP International School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success in cultivating a learning environment that engages and inspires student creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students are curious and excited about their daily lessons, under the guidance of teachers, they are using apps and devices to enhance and optimise learning opportunities in and out of classrooms,” says Matthew Marson, Deputy Principal for Curriculum and Innovation.

Students and teachers use a variety of learning apps to extend and redefine learning and teaching. They use apps that allow easy access to Green Screen technology, bringing various topics and subjects to life, e.g. reporting ‘live’ from a volcano site for a Geography project, having a mock debate with Greek philosophers during History lessons. Students also reflect on their own learning using a learning journal app called Seesaw, e.g. they explain what they learn in a Mathematics topic, reflecting on the challenges they have faced and collaborating and getting feedback from their peers. Students create their own content using the Book Creator app, where staff and students become authentic authors of their own learning, science research, interactive storytelling, poetry and music recital, and many more.
HIS recognised as a model for innovation and collaboration in education
As part of the commitment to innovative learning, school leadership, teachers and parents recognise the importance of responsible use of technology and the various learning apps. Teachers are encouraged to share best practice in classrooms, using social media platforms to celebrate success, inspiring everyone in the school community and beyond.
“This is an ongoing process of improvement and innovation that requires thoughtful planning and practice. The School was established four years ago in 2014 and embarked on this journey with Apple since its first academic year. Our teachers have been engaged in weekly professional training and development, while parents participate in regular workshops. This recognition from Apple reaffirms our belief that responsible use of technology must play an integral role in the curriculum for all students. It is testament to the commitment of our staff and our students that we have nurtured a culture of innovation so early in the school’s journey,” comments Davina McCarthy, Principal. “We have equipped and empowered our students with the access to personalised learning anywhere, anytime. There is now greater flexibility in accessing what we learn and how we learn. Nurturing a growth mindset is especially critical to be ready for the challenges of the rapidly changing global landscape.”
