This May,Nilai International School held its annual Book Day which focused on encouraging reading through stimulating learning opportunities. In conjunction with the World Book Day,NIS students celebrated by dressing up as their favourite book character. Popular character choices were James Bond, Batman, Harry Potter, Nancy Drew and Queen Elsa.
World Book Day is a well-known yearly event organised by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright and was first celebrated on 23 April 1995. It is a day to celebrate authors, illustrators, books and more importantly reading.
To demonstrate their favourite character, each year group did a catwalk around the hall during assembly. Key Stage 1 was the most pleasurable group representing their favourite characters. The exciting day left students with wider perspective on characters on books they’ve read. It was a fun packed day for the whole school and World Book Day has certainly encouraged more reading amongst its students.
