Following the Sabah intrusion by Sulu gunmen from southern Philippines, the Sabah Kadazandusun Murut Welfare and Education Association (Pekadin) states that there's an urgent need for the Education Ministry to review Malaysian history text book contents on the formation of Sabah and Sarawak and their merging with Peninsular Malaysia (Malaya)."The Malaysian history text books now are only focusing on the history of Peninsular Malaysia and not in detail on Sabah and Sarawak," said Pekadin Deputy President Nailin Gabintal.

"Feedback and response received by Pekadin shows that the younger generation and Malaysian adults still have 'shallow knowledge' on the real history relating to the Sulu sultanate before Sabah gained independence through the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963," he said.
