STEM TEACHING FLYING HIGH AT ST. JOHN’S INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

St. John’s International School (SJIS) is a private-funded International School and an associate La Salle School in collaboration with the La Salle Brothers in Malaysia. SJIS presents a new milieu for students from different cultures and backgrounds to be nurtured in education, sports and extra-curricular activities excellence.

On the 10th of January 2019, St. John’s International School (SJIS) announced the launch of their school Drone Tech Club (DTC) with ‘STEM Education with Drone Technology’ which is a collaboration with SG Education Group, a leader in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The duration of the programme is two-and-a-half years where students will be introduced to the Drone Training modules.

Adhering to their commitment to providing high standards of teaching in innovation and technology. The newly introduced drone technology enables new methods and measures within various industries, such as geospatial modelling on construction sites. The commencement of the DTC will stimulate interest amidst students in pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) subjects, particularly at tertiary. By furnishing students with technologies, like drones that involve coding and software, electronics, physics, and even creativity in design; it is hoped that more will continue with STEM subjects to an advanced level.

The Drone Tech Club (DTC) is implemented in accordance to SJIS’ academic agenda and will enable students to become not only competent but confident and creative with this exciting new technology and its real-world application. The DTC will add to the long list of Clubs & Societies at SJIS, especially adding an extra dimension to the new Audio/Visual Club, where students have access to their own content creation studio and software.

Suresh Dass, Chief Operating Officer & Principal at SJIS and Dato' Sri Ganes, Founder & CEO of SG Education were delighted to welcome the SG Education Group Drone team to the school and shared their perspective and eagerness on the Drone Technology and the partnership for the DTC programme at SJIS.
