ISKL

The International School of Kuala Lumpur

Established in 1965, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is the first fully accredited international school in Malaysia and is home to more than 1,500 students from over 60 countries.

ISKL is a private and non-profit, parent-governed school accredited internationally through the Council of International Schools (CIS), and in the United States through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). ISKL is also authorized through the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB), the first IB school in Malaysia.

Over the years, ISKL has built its outstanding international reputation by balancing sound tradition for academic excellence with innovative approaches to teaching and learning. We nurture young minds with the spirit to succeed, preparing them for a lifelong journey of opportunities ahead of them with determination and confidence.

Learning is a lifetime journey and it begins here at the International School of Kuala Lumpur.

In August 2018, ISKL's two campuses at Melawati and Ampang will be combined into one purpose-built campus in Ampang Hilir, where ISKL will offer its exceptional programs in a world-class facility. With approximately 25.7 acres of land, ISKL will provide the most advanced learning environment featuring academic, arts, and athletic resources. From world-class science labs, classrooms, art facilities, and three libraries, the school also includes flexible spaces designed to incorporate the latest in teaching and learning concepts. With extensive playing fields, an Olympic sized track, two gymnasia, and tennis courts, the new campus is adorned with superb sports facilities. Also, the standout Aquatics Complex includes one 50-meter Olympic sized competition pool, a 25-meter daily activity pool, and a learn-to-swim pool for young learners. The Performing Arts Center (PAC), with four distinct elements, will showcase local and regional events that serve the needs of the community well beyond that of ISKL. Included in this complex will be a purpose-built 700 seat Performance Theatre, an Atrium Amphitheatre, and plans for further completion of a Concert Recital Hall and Black Box Theater.

The building is designed to achieve the Green Building Index (GBI) Platinum rating, will serve as a laboratory for the study and understanding of environmentally sustainable practice. The school reflects the institution's ethos and focus on care for the environment. The school values the involvement of parents in the life of the school and as such, has intentionally created gathering spaces for parents and volunteers to meet. From a full-service Coffee Shop, to parent lounges and dedicated Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) spaces, the campus design supports ISKL’s unique and warm community.

Shamsi Family

We love to see our daughter Sehreen Shamsi and son Siam Shamsi learning and growing in a truly global campus of ISKL. We love the activities such as international festivals, food carnivals, musical concerts, etc.

The Fike Family

Our Family is so grateful for the support and opportunities that ISKL has given our children. We are so proud of the mature global citizens our children have become while thriving in the ISKL community.

Ika Muzamal - Alumna

I'll forever be thankful for the tireless dedication of the teachers and staff, the wide variety of activities available, and the overall warmth of the ISKL community.

ISKL has championed a holistic approach to the education of young people for over 50 years. Its graduates attend the finest universities in the UK, USA, and around the world, with the Class of 2018 receiving over $3.9 million in scholarships to support them pursuing their higher education studies. Year upon year, ISKL student IB and AP results exceed both the world and Asia Pacific averages. The school offers each student access to a broad range of opportunities in the arts, athletics, service, academics, and more with many opportunities for travel throughout the region for both performance and athletic competition, as well through the High School’s Global Action Program (GAP) and Malaysia Week programs in the Middle School.

As one of the oldest international schools in the region, ISKL students graduate into a robust alumni community who are leaders throughout the world. Committed to the belief that everyone has the capacity to learn, ISKL has established its  Life-Centered Education (LCE) program which is designed to meet the needs of students who have a diagnosed intellectual or developmental disability and require individualized academic and social skill instruction. Students accepted into the program receive customized guidance and support from highly trained special educators and assistant teachers. The program will prepare students with essential skills for their next steps after earning their High School diploma.
