With a total population of 6.57 million people, the state of Selangor has multiple education options that extend from public to private to international and Chinese schools as well.

Due to its close proximity to Kuala Lumpur, the Chinese schools in Selangor serve to cater to students in both areas with many institutions owning an illustrious heritage of the Chinese community in the state.

There are two categories of Chinese schools in Malaysia: private and government-funded. The difference between these two categories can be identified through their funding, medium of instruction and syllabus used.

Chinese private schools are self-funded independent high schools whereas the national-type Chinese schools (SJKC and SMJK) are public schools that receive either full or partial financial assistance from the government. Chinese private schools are also known as Chinese independent schools.

At Chinese independent schools, the syllabus and textbooks are prepared by Dong Zong, which also prepares and conducts the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for their students. Dong Zong, also known as the Joint Federation of Chinese Schools Board of Malaysia is an association that manages 60 Chinese High Schools around Malaysia.

At Chinese public schools, SMJK students follow the same syllabus and sit for the same examinations as their counterparts in national secondary schools (SMK) such as PT3 in Form Three, SPM in Form Five and STPM in Form Six.

Out of 60 Chinese private schools in Malaysia, here are some that are located in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
