Johor, a state of Malaysia situated at the south of the Peninsula Malaysia is known for its beautiful sandy beaches and tranquil rainforests. More recently, Johor has become a hotbed for urban development, with a strong focus on Iskandar Malaysia which was named the highest-impact project when it was first developed 10 years ago.

Therefore, it is only natural that the state became one of the most popular destinations among local and international tourists in Malaysia.

The fast-paced development also enabled more expats and residents from its neighbouring country, Singapore to choose Johor as a viable place to live. This in turn has caused a boom in the education sector which has been encouraged by the government to further draw more locals and expats alike.

There are a growing number of international schools in Johor to accommodate expats who are coming to the city with their family.

1. Utama International School

Fee range: RM 6,600 – RM 10,500

Location: Johor Bahru, Johor

Utama International School (UIS) offers British School curriculum for kindergarten, primary and secondary classes. It was opened in September 1994 and is one of the Sri Utama Schools. It has also established UIS in Johor Bahru in 2003. It is a co-educational institution, and boarding is available. Student accommodation includes hostel rooms with six beds and includes five meals per day, laundry service, security and supervision by resident housemaster or matron.

2. United International School

Fee range: RM 6,300 – RM 19,200

Location: Jalan Minyak Beku, Batu Pahat

Located at Jalan Minyak Beku which is known for being the longest road in Batu Pahat, United International School is a co-educational school offering a comprehensive Cambridge International Curriculum that prepares and leads students between the ages of 4-18 toward pre-university qualifications which are Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels.

3. Austin Heights International School

Fee range: RM 8,400 – RM 18,000

Location: Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru

Austin Heights International School nestled at one of the famous towns in Johor Bahru, Taman Mount Austin. The school is divided into the International Preschool and the International School consisting of primary and secondary. The institution offers the International Primary Curriculum, Cambridge Primary Curriculum and the Cambridge Secondary Curriculum culminating in the IGCSEs.

4. R.E.A.L International School

Fee range: RM 16,740 – RM 22,340

Location: Masai, Johor

Opening its doors in 2008, the campus is located just 9km east of Johor Bahru city (within the central corridor of the Iskandar Malaysia development region) and is well connected via a network of major highways and roads. Located on a 5-acre site, surrounded by trees and greenery, the Sanctuary Campus provides a peaceful and conducive environment for students to learn and enjoy their school experience.

5. Seri Omega International School

Fee range: RM 20,400 – RM 24,000

Location: Senai, Johor

Seri Omega International School offers Primary Education (Year 1 to 6) and Secondary (Year Seven to Eleven) which culminates into the Cambridge O levels or IGCSE at secondary education level. Both certificates are offered by Cambridge University and are acceptable in all English-speaking countries worldwide. The examinations and teaching accreditation is monitored and certified by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) which provides the school and its teaching staff with a solid guideline.

6. Sri Ara International School

Fee range: RM 18,450 – RM 29,520

Location: Straits View, Johor Bahru

Sri Ara International School is a co-educational international school located in Straits View, Johor Bahru for students aged 5-16 years old. The school recognises that students come to it with a variety of learning styles, academic abilities and cultural experiences, and does its best to provide a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment in which to encourage academic and social development of students following the Cambridge International Curriculum.

7. Crescendo-HELP International School

Fee range: RM 26,460 – RM 36,000

Location: Ulu Tiram, Johor

Crescendo-HELP International School is an independent international school located in a quiet, residential area of Desa Cemerlang, on a site adjacent to Crescendo International College, with excellent access to all areas of Johor Bahru and beyond.
