Learners in Malaysia have done it again as 192 learners from 58 schools were named top achievers at Cambridge Assessment International Education’s (Cambridge International) Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards. Held at Holiday Villa Subang Jaya, the ceremony acknowledged the exceptional performance of students in the June 2019 examination series for Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS & A Levels.

This year’s awards ceremony presented a total of 199 awards for achievements in Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS & A Levels. Among the recipients, 39 learners were awarded ‘Top in the World’ for Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics while 8 learners received ‘Top in the World’ for Cambridge International A Level Mathematics. Additionally, awards were also presented to students who obtained first place in Malaysia within their respective qualification category: ‘Best Across Three Cambridge International A Levels’, ‘Best Across Four Cambridge International AS Levels’ and ‘Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs’.

Dr Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, Southeast Asia & Pacific, Cambridge Assessment International Education said: "I believe that education is the key to unlocking the doors of opportunity in our life’s journey. The process is endless, but every door that is opened is a new adventure to be had and life is all about experiencing as many things in this world as humanly possible.

"Our young learners have taken new steps in this journey of self-development and this awards ceremony is a reward for their persistence and zeal. They continue to be an inspiration to other countries worldwide, as Malaysia is the only country where this awards ceremony is held twice a year, due to the impressive number of recipients. I hope that this proud tradition continues and that everyone here today has the courage to embark on their adventure in life," he added.

Bhuvanadevi a/p Elanchelvan of Austin Heights International School, who received the ‘Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs’ award as well as a ‘Top in Malaysia’ award for Cambridge IGCSE Physics said: “With the well-structured Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, I was able to better understand complicated subjects. Over time, this has taught me to adopt a more methodological, as well as analytical mindset.”

Meanwhile, Tang Yi Qwan from Methodist College Kuala Lumpur said: “Before enrolling into Cambridge International A Level, I was still searching for a subject that piqued my interest. Throughout my studies during the programme, I have developed a deeper understanding of different subjects. As I continued to progress into the A-Level curriculum, I began to realise my true potential and interest in Mathematics.” Tang is the recipient of two awards, including ‘Top in the World’ for Cambridge International A Level in Further Mathematics and ‘Best Across Three Cambridge International A Levels’.

Both Bhuvanadevi and Tang are among the many Malaysian high achievers who were recognised for more than one accolade in the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.
