About Asia Pacific Smart School (APSS)
Asia Pacific Smart School (APSS) is the national-curriculum school within Asia Pacific Schools , located in Subang, Selangor. The school was established in 2006 as one of Malaysia's early Smart Schools, following the Malaysian Government's Smart School initiative. Its approach was designed around technology-driven learning and new teaching methods intended to develop students' critical thinking and adaptability.
In 2012, Asia Pacific International School was introduced alongside the national school, giving families a choice between an international and Malaysian education pathway. The national school was subsequently renamed Asia Pacific Smart School , strengthening its identity as the Malaysian curriculum pathway within Asia Pacific Schools.
Today, APSS combines the Malaysian National Curriculum with an enhanced learning approach , while providing students with opportunities to develop skills that are relevant both locally and internationally. The school describes its wider educational philosophy as developing individuals to become the best versions of themselves through “Amazing Learning” that shapes the future.
APSS follows the KSSR curriculum at Primary level and KSSM at Secondary level , with an enhanced Dual Language Programme (DLP) . Students follow the Malaysian national education pathway and progress towards the SPM examinations .
At Primary level, students are assessed through School-Based Assessment (SBA) , including classroom-based assessment, PAJSK, psychometric evaluations and core values. The school also uses personalised learning to provide feedback and interventions according to students' needs.
At Secondary level, APSS provides preparation for SPM , while students can also access selected IGCSE subjects through collaboration with Asia Pacific International School. This gives students some flexibility in shaping their academic pathway while remaining within the national-school environment.
The school's enhanced Dual Language Programme (DLP) forms part of its approach to preparing students for both Malaysian and international opportunities.
The national curriculum pathway is complemented by English-language learning and international exposure, helping students develop confidence in communicating and learning in a global environment.
Beyond academic subjects, APSS focuses on developing practical skills that students can apply throughout their lives.
The school's Skills for Life framework develops five key areas:
Cognitive skills – critical thinking, curiosity, creativity and problem-solving
Global skills – cultural understanding, inclusivity and global awareness
Self-leadership – goal-setting, self-management and learning how to learn
Interpersonal skills – communication, collaboration and relationship-building
Digital skills – responsible technology use, digital literacy and innovation
This approach is designed to ensure that students develop more than examination knowledge, giving them the confidence and skills to navigate further education, work and lif
Although APSS follows the Malaysian National Curriculum, students are also exposed to international learning opportunities through the school's membership of the International Schools Partnership (ISP) .
APS students participate in international programmes that broaden their cultural understanding and allow them to collaborate and learn beyond their immediate school environment.
This creates a combination of Malaysian curriculum + international exposure , giving students a pathway to remain grounded in the national education system while developing skills relevant to a global environment.
Asia Pacific Smart School has been awarded the 5-Star Quality Standards Award for Private Education Institutions by Malaysia's Ministry of Education (MOE) . The recognition covers areas including curriculum delivery, teacher development, school standards and the quality of the learning environment.
