Cempaka International School - Damansara Heights Campus

Cempaka's early childhood programme, Michelia, begins from approximately 2 years old and is inspired by the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy.

The approach uses hands-on learning, investigation, project work, themes and play to encourage children to explore their environment and develop curiosity.

The programme includes:

Buds: 24–36 months

Pre-Reception: approximately 3–4 years

Reception: 5+ years

The early years programme focuses on social, emotional and creative development alongside literacy, numeracy, working memory, focus and self-control.hools.

Cempaka Primary caters to students from approximately 5+ to 11 years old, covering Years 1–6.

The Finnish curriculum places emphasis on:

• Curiosity and problem-solving

In Years 4–6, the curriculum expands to include practical subjects such as Woodwork and Home Economics, while leadership and school representation opportunities are introduced progressively.

The Secondary School builds upon the learning foundations established through the Finnish model.

Students develop greater academic rigour, independence and personal agency, with opportunities to explore personal interests through projects and the Cempaka Awards Scheme's Deep Dive Projects.

The lower secondary programme currently combines the Finnish school model with the Cambridge syllabus, while Years 10 and 11 continue towards Cambridge IGCSE.

Students subsequently progress into A-Levels or the University Foundation Programme in Years 12 and 13.

Leadership development is built into the Cempaka journey.

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their decisions, understand consequences and develop the confidence to shape their own futures. The school's concept of “Berdikari”, meaning independence, reflects its focus on resilience and personal agency.

The school also provides opportunities for leadership and representation as students progress through Primary and Secondary School.

Cempaka has a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) system as part of its learning support network.

The school states that its teacher teams work collaboratively to tailor learning to individual students' needs. SEN support forms part of a wider support system intended to help students have a successful school journey.

The school also uses regular communication with parents and a digital learning platform that provides real-time insights into student progress.

Cempaka combines international exposure with an emphasis on preserving students' cultural identity.

The school has been a member of the International Schools Association (ISA) for more than a decade. Students participate in international exchanges, combined special projects, school trips and the annual ISA Youth Leadership Encounter.

This provides students with opportunities to interact with peers internationally while remaining connected to their Malaysian cultural context.
