A 2013 Slate article titled "If You Send Your Kid to Private School, You are a Bad Person" has re-surfaced in the virtual world.Sending Kids to Private School is NOT Bad ParentingAmong the points brought up by the writer, Allison Benedikt were:

  • Many reasons for choosing private schools; religion, behavioral or learning issues are not compelling enough.
  • Children do not need private education if parents provide support at home.
  • Sending your kids to private schools is the culprit causing public schools to become mediocre.
  • If you have the money to send kids to private school, you should use the money for the betterment of public schools.

Another writer had taken the task of rebutting the article of which the original aforementioned author admits to being "judgmental".Jennifer Cowie King lists her own arguments as such:

  • No one has the right to shame any particular parent for having a reason to make a particular educational decision for their particular child as not-compelling.
  • No matter the system, parental support is mandatory but private school education adds a sharper edge.
  • Being a good person has nothing to do with what kind of school you choose for your children.
  • Everyone has the responsibility to advocate for improving and helping public schools because it improves communities and will impact future generations.
