It’s hard to “Shake It Off” when you keep hearing her song every morning on your way to work. Chances are your children are also crazy for the pop country sensation, Taylor Swift. Here are reasons why you should be best friends with the singer-songwriter’s music.

1. She is an open book

“Where did you go?” “Out.”

“What did you do?” “Things.”

Most parents are familiar with the frustration of trying to get their children to open up to them. Children also get frustrated when they are unable to articulate what they feel out of fear of seeming “uncool" to their peers.

Taylor Swift tells it like it is. Her songs make good starting points for discussion about adulthood, puppy love and self-esteem between parents and children. She talks about being goofy, awkward and self-reflecting: a common trait everyone shares growing up.

2. She gives good advice

Being so honest, you can’t help but build some sort of bond to Taylor Swift. This is why her fans relate to her songs, and take heed of her words. This is the power of a megastar.

Parents worldwide can’t help but cheer when she sings: And when you're fifteen/and your first kiss makes your head spin around/But in your life you'll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team (Taylor Swift, Fifteen)

3. She is a good role model

Taylor Swift moved to Nashville at the age of 14 to pursue a career in music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house.

Although busy writing and performing, she still manages to be well known as a philanthropist and earned her high school diploma in 2008, having completed her final two years of course work in only twelve months! She is a shining example of homeschool education.

Haters gonna hate, but we love Taylor Swift!
