Kuala Lumpur is an amazing city in Malaysia which portrays a cultural melting pot. The city is packed full of attractions and activities for kids which makes it apt to being a family-friendly city to visit for new visitors staying in town for a couple of days or families, looking for activities or wanting to visit somewhere during the weekend or school holidays. 

KL is filled with extensive sightseeing opportunities, provides multitude unique theme parks with exhilarating rides, expansive animal farms, and kid entertainment centres for both outdoors and indoors for those rainy, hazy or lazy days. Nowadays, it is easy to get around with the availability of various train lines and affordable taxis. 1. Petronas Twin Towers

Description: Soaring to a height of 451.9 metres, the 88-storey twin structure is Kuala Lumpur’s crown jewel. No matter how many times one sees the towers, (s)he will always be wonderstruck by its structure.The Skybridge is the structure that connects the two towers and is the world’s highest 2-storey bridge where families can visit there to get the panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur.The foundation of the Towers is the Suria KLCC which harbours a 1,500,000 sq ft shopping oasis where you can shop for luxury goods and designer labels. Furthermore, an art gallery, the Aquaria KLCC (the underwater world), a philharmonic theater and the Petrosains Center (which are in this list) and diverse food choices.If all the shopping and eating is a lot to handle, you can make way to the KLCC Park which contains jogging and walking paths, wading pools, children's playground and also a fountain with light show, known as the KLCC Lake Symphony Light and Sound Water Fountain. Showtimes are 8 pm, 9 pm and 10 pm daily. However, KLCC Lake Symphony Water Fountain showtimes (Light only) are 7:30 pm, 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm daily. 2. Aquaria KLCC

Description: Aquaria KLCC is a state-of-the-art aquarium located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on the concourse level of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). It is a world-class aquarium which is home to over 5000 land bound and aquatic creature exhibits spreading over a sprawling 60,000 square-foot space.Besides incredible aquatic and land-bound animals amounting to over 5,000 different species, like otters, water rats, piranhas, giant blotched fantail rays and countless others; the Moon Jellyfish is the scene stealer that floats around like bobbing lava lamps. The most memorable highlights of the aquarium for many might be the breathtaking oceanarium which is accessible through a 90m long tunnel on a moving travelator. 3.  Farm in the City

Description: An Eden of Nature and Animals Farm In The City (FITC) is a unique new concept that combines elements of wildlife and nature set in a designed environment of a conservation park. Drawing upon the values of Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-cultural population, FITC is designed to resemble a typical Malaysia village or “kampung” setting. FITC plans to become a focal point for tourism in the state by providing educational and entertaining insight into the lifestyle and setting of a Malaysian village, farm and fruit orchard with its natural plants and wildlife. FITC is much more than a viewing exhibit. It encourages visitor-interactions with the animals and plant-life in a comfortable yet authentic environment. 4. Kuala Lumpur National Zoo & Aquarium

Description: Kuala Lumpur National Zoo & Aquarium, or commonly known as Zoo Negara by Malaysians extends over 110 acres of land around a central lake and is located only 5 km from KL city.The zoo has a total of over 5137 specimen from 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Over the years, the zoo has transformed itself to an open concept zoo with over 90% of its animals being kept in spacious exhibits with landscape befitting its nature. They are working in making sure that the old zoo concept is changed entirely. Zoo Negara is also home to two highly-endangered giant pandas hailing from Sichuan, where you are able to catch a glimpse of behind a massive glass panel. Other prominent sections within include the Reptile Park, Malaysian Elephants exhibit, Lake Birds display, Bear Complex and Mammal Kingdom. The Zoo also holds animal shows daily at 11:00 and 15:00 respectively, photo booths on weekends, as well as guided tours, talks, seminars and interactive sessions.

5. i-City Theme Park

Description: i-City Theme Park, is located in Shah Alam and is best known for its nightly colourful display of LED-lit attractions and it is home to a range of exciting and family-friendly activities. i-City Theme Park or their official name, i-City Leisure Park is an OPEN theme park. What this means is there's NO entrance fee to i-City. Fees are only applicable for the rides. Resembling a colourful funfair in Coney Island, US, the theme park also has a massive Ferris wheel, a two-tiered carousel, carnival-esque game booths, stalls selling candy floss and other snacks.The Theme-Park is divided into 4 precincts, namely; City of Digital Lights – with amusing outdoor park rides and over 1.0 million LEDs lightscape; Snowalk - a 50, 000 square feet arctic setting maintained below 5 degree Celcius; WaterWorld – a water theme park introducing the first Tornado Ride in Southeast Asia; and FunWorld - offer family-oriented activities and games with Malaysia's first interactive wax museum, The Red Carpet, and Malaysia's first Trick Art Museum.

6. Skytrex Adventure

Description: Skytrex Adventure provides the first of its kind in Malaysia, a tree to tree ‘sky-trekking’ experience where you can fly, swing, glide and dangle on the various aerial obstacles suspended above the lush tropical Malaysian Rainforest. 7. Berjaya Times Square Theme Park

Description: Berjaya Times Square Theme Park, the largest indoor theme park in Kuala Lumpur is situated inside the Berjaya Times Square shopping mall. It is structured as classic amusement park style and is divided into two zones. The first one is directed towards adults while the other one for children. 8. KidZania

Description: KidZania Kuala Lumpur is an award-winning indoor family themed learning centre that offers interactive learning and role play experiences for kids since 2012. 9. District 21 Kuala Lumpur

Description: The year is 2066. The world is hostile and toxic. The survival of the human race hangs in the balance. 10. Sunway Lagoon

11. Petrosains Discovery Centre

Description: Petrosains is a Science Discovery Centre that uses a fun and interactive approach to tell the story of the science and technology of the energy industry. Petrosains Discovery Centre is an interactive science discovery centre located on the fourth floor of the Petronas Twin Towers. The sequence of the exhibits in Petrosains traces the evolution and scientific relevance of the energy industry while also focusing on general science and its application to everyday life. Petrosains puts an emphasis on the fun and excitement of learning rather than on the rigorous memorisation of scientific facts. The centre occupies levels 4 and 5 respectively of both Tower 1 and Tower 2 of the Twin Towers. Good for hours of fun, the spacious complex is largely dedicated to the field of petroleum science and presents science and technology in a fun and entertaining way. Arranged in an easy to navigate ‘museum-style’ concept with a collection ranging from space age exhibits to fossils, Petrosains Discovery Centre is divided into 11 main interactive showcases that can be visited in any order. 12. Megakidz Funland & Edutainment

Description: If you’re looking for an affordable fun day out with your children, Megakidz Funland & Edutainment might be the place for your family as it offers fun for kids and parents alike. Located on the third level of Midvalley Megamall, this 27,000sqft centre contains multitude of facilities catering for kids from the age of 1 to 16 where they are free to learn and play. This colourful edutainment centre is filled with fun– it comprises of an aviation play system, a toddlers’ corner, an air bouncer, a small cinema and a cafeteria. The state-of-the-art aviation play system is the biggest in Asia, with its tall slides and pop-up play helicopter, and the toddlers’ corner houses a small-scale play system that is designed to help with development and growth. The cinema has a capacity to accommodate up to 50 children for small movie screenings. 13. National Science Centre in Kuala Lumpur

Description: If you want to explore and gain knowledge in the world of science and technology, the National Science Center is the place to be. It is an informal educational institution where the Gallery and Exhibition are located on the first and second level of the building and outside is Science Wonderland which is an an educational park. The centre consists of exhibits and activities provided for different age groups and backgrounds or whether the visit is individual or group tours. It is divided into several sections, with exhibits which cover a range of scientific knowledge and you can spend as much time as possible with your family as there is no time limit for gallery tours. If you want to participate in science activities, specially prepared by the PSNCWU’s staff, you can  refer to School Program which is only held on weekdays (Kedah’s working days), that is, from Sunday to Thursday. Reservations can be made by filling out the Booking Form at least two weeks before the date of visit you are planning.
