Top Boarding Schools in KL and Selangor

The choice of finding a boarding school for your child is no longer exclusive to elite public schools in the country.

The rising number of international schools in Malaysia not only allow parents to pick a suitable curriculum for their kids, but also pair it with the nurturing experience of boarding while in school.

Beyond the confines of the hostels, students are able to enjoy camaraderie amongst fellow students within an international setting. The guiding hands of pastoral staff will also help to mould students with a sense of responsibility and independence.

KUALA LUMPUR

1. International Islamic School Malaysia (IISM)

Location: Gombak, Kuala Lumpur

Boarding fee range: RM12,400 - RM14,400

The only Islamic International School that provides boarding facilities within the Klang Valley area, the hostel is located in the International Islamic University (IIUM) compound.

Students will have to adhere to a systematic and structured schedule such as performing prayers in congregation. The school has adequate facilities coupled with Islamic pastoral care which allows students to enjoy a balanced and spiritual fulfilling boarding experience at the school.

2. Vikas International School

Location: Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur

Boarding fee range: RM7,500 - RM12,000

Providing weekly (from Monday to Friday) and full time boarding options, Vikas International School employs a strict regimen of morning exercise and yoga. Studying sessions at the hostel are also included in the evening timetable.

The school believes that a strict enforcement of regulation that includes no electronic devices and minimal cash brought along by the students would help foster responsibility and instill proper values in students.

3. Nexus International School

Location: Presint 15, Putrajaya

Boarding fee range: RM13,000 - RM14,000

The boarding house at Nexus International School welcomes students aged between 10 to 18. The options for boarding range from full boarding to weekday boarding and day boarding.

Nexus Boarding House serves as a platform for personal growth and discovery as students will be actively involved in after school and day-to-day activities which include tidying up their rooms. To form meaningful friendships, boarders are encouraged to bake cakes for their friend’s birthday besides helping each other with school work.

4. Fairview International School, Kuala Lumpur Campus

Location: Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur

Boarding fee range: RM24,000

With accommodation on site at the school grounds, Fairview International School Kuala Lumpur accommodates a small number of students of 2 to 3 per apartment at their Hall of Residence (HOR).

Besides living comfortably in a room of two, boarders will be able to acquire cooking skills as the hostel is equipped with cooking facilities. Students are well taken care of with pastoral care provided by the teaching staff that also stay at the school hostel at all times.

SELANGOR

1. Australian International School Malaysia (AISM)

Location: Seri Kembangan, Selangor

Boarding fee range: RM9,750 - RM10,500

Located in Putrajaya, Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) boarding house is definitely a home for students who are away from home. The boarding house accommodates students aged between 12 to 18.

Providing full boarding and weekday boarding options, each floor has a resident House Parent who oversees pastoral and social welfare needs of the boarders. The boarding house promises a supportive and safe environment for every student as each day is filled with activities like doing sports and domestic activities to help students develop their life skills.

2. Sunway International School

Location: Bandar Sunway, Selangor

Boarding fee range: RM20,000

Sunway International School, Subang Jaya provides boarding for students from grade 9 to 11 combining the comforts of well suited facilities and furnishing along with dedicated pastoral care.

Students enjoy a wide range of activities that foster a sense of belonging with an active social calendar that includes monthly birthday celebrations and recreational out of town trips. The hostel is well secured with dedicated security personnel and all students are required to check in well before the mandated curfew time at night.

3. King Henry VIII College

Location: Cyberjaya, Selangor

Boarding fee range: RM12,667 - RM14,000

King Henry VIII College offers full and day boarding where the students enjoy the school’s first-rate pastoral care and support network. The boarders will be accompanied by Houseparents, a Resident Tutor, and other Resident Assistants.

The boarders have access to school facilities in the evenings and during weekends. To make sure the students who are away from home feel comfortable and occupied throughout their stay at the boarding school, the students are provided with a programme of weekend activities and excursions.

4. MAZ International School

Location: Section 7, Shah Alam

Boarding fee range: RM28,000

MAZ International School, Shah Alam provides students a comprehensive boarding experience with adequate facilities ranging from 24-hour daily security and an on-call doctor at the sick bay.

Students boarding at the hostel are provided with smart tags to access the gates and lifts at the boarding facility which is located on site at the school campus. Each air conditioned room will be home to two boarders. Other facilities include a book store and a common lounge area, as well as sporting facilities.
