In Malaysia, homeschooling was a very uncommon schooling option but this has changed in recent years. The self-paced learning environment provided by homeschooling has lured more parents to choose this alternative education pathway for their kids. Below are the two major types of homeschooling models being practiced in the country.

Home-based

Some parents teach their children at home following a specific curriculum. There are also parents who teach their kids without a particular curriculum, where mix-and-match approach is used to suit their children's needs.

Christian homeschoolers in Malaysia mainly order their teaching materials from American publishers such as Sonlight Curriculum as well as the Alpha Omega Publications. Certain parents may also supplement the syllabus with Bahasa Malaysia and national curriculum.

Church-based

The children will study at a church or church-affiliated learning centre, which also welcome non-Christian students. Moreover, not all of such centres incorporate Christian studies in their syllabus.

IGCSE is one of the popular non faith-based curricula being used. The IGCSE qualification is accepted as an equivalent to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate. IGCSE is also recognised by higher education institutions and employers worldwide.
