IB-my-changes_600x400A study was donecomparing the outcome of the IB Diploma Programme for students who had previously did the MYP to other middle years courses of study.

The study found that:

Students with an MYP background were found to outperform students who participated in other middle years curriculums in total diploma points and specific IB Diploma subjects. This suggests that participation in the MYP may provide an advantage to students who continue on to the IB Diploma. There is also a substantial difference, according to teachers and students, between the greater analytical and inquiry skills of MYP students on the one hand, and the greater content knowledge and exam-taking experience of non-MYP students on the other.

What are the changes to the MYP?

The newly revised MYP:

  1. It is a more explicitly concept-driven curriculum that encourages teaching and learning for understanding
  2. The programme features global contexts to provide authentic settings through which students engage with issues and ideas of personal, local and global significance
  3. The MYP builds approaches to learning skills for communication, research, self-management, collaboration and critical thinking
  4. The program requires a community project as a demonstration of learning for students completing the programme before year 5.
  5. The MYP offers optional eAssessments that can lead to the IB MYP certificate and IB MYP course results
  6. It aligns more closely with the IB Primary Years Programme, IB Diploma Programme and IB Career-related Certificate.
