About Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ)

Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) is one of the region's top international schools specifically for students aged 3 to 19 years, located in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan. Founded in 1991, KTJ aims to establish a British-style boarding school with a strong focus on holistic education, global citizenship, sustainability, and the promotion of diversity and inclusion. Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) provides provides a high-quality education for children in Early Years and Primary Years 1 to 6. Nursery and Reception are part of KTJ’s Early Years Program, which follows the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC). Meanwhile, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 syllabus combines the English National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar Secondary involves Forms 1 to Form 5 and Sixth Form. The syllabus is based on the English National Curriculum and it is designed to prepare students for IGCSE courses, which begin in Form 4.  

Despite the ongoing disruption to the education system caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, KTJ Form 5 students achieved outstanding IGCSE results. In 2019 to 2020, 35% of entries received an A*, an increase of 8% from the previous year. Furthermore, 36% of KTJ students received at least 7 A* or A marks, compared to 30% in the UK. In 2021, 61% of A Level entries were graded A* and 90% graded A*-B. 

KTJ combines traditional Malaysian architecture with state-of-the-art facilities while stressing sustainability on an 80-acre site. The school's facilities assist the students' intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative, and spiritual development while highlighting its holistic approach to academic learning.

Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ) is also known for its boarding school. The boarders will be assisted by KTJ’s experienced Houseparents and House Staff. Boarders will enjoy an extensive range of activities after school each day and during weekends. 

The facility in boarding includes:

  • Modern shared bedrooms and private bedrooms for upper sixth students

  • Communal spaces (Cinema room, communal kitchen, gym equipment and private rooms for study and academic discussions). 

KTJ prepares over 60 various and exciting extra-curricular activities (ECAs). These ECAs assist students to establish a feeling of belonging, foster personal development, build resilience, and develop team spirit by supplementing classroom learning. Students can also use ECAs to develop and pursue their interests and passions, as well as to be inspired to participate in new and exciting activities.

KTJ builds strong ties with the parent community. Therefore, parents can communicate clearly and effectively by involving the Parent Teacher Committee (PTC) at KTJ. Throughout the year, PTC supports the entire KTJ community with a variety of innovative projects, initiatives, and celebrations. Parents can participate in the PTC in a variety of ways, from simple volunteer tasks to holding a formal position on the organizing committee. The PTC meets with members of the Primary Leadership Team on a regular basis and communicates with parents via year group WhatsApp groups, newsletters, and the PTC noticeboard by the school foyer.
