Despite the circumstances we are living in, it did not stop 53 KTJ students from attaining straight A* grades for their A Level.
Sixth Form students at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) international School have attained outstanding results in their A Level examinations.
81% of entries were graded A* or A, and 90% graded an A* to B. The subjects which received the highest percentage of A* or A grades were History (95.4%), Further Mathematics (92.7%), Mathematics (87.8%) and Economics (85.1%). To put these results into context, the UK experienced a record year for A Level results, with 43% of students achieving an A* or A grade. That figure was 70% in UK private schools.
53 Sixth Form students received straight A* grades, which is an increase of 71% from 2019 when students last sat for their A Level examinations. Exam boards in 2020 cancelled A Level examinations due to the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning last year’s cohort received grades predicted by their teachers and moderated by the exam boards.
KTJ also achieved a value-added score of 0.6 from the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) for this year’s A Level students, indicating that on average our students achieved more than half a grade higher than predicted by the baseline testing we carried out before they started their Sixth Form studies. These data, along with the 34% of all results that were at least a full grade higher than forecasted, illustrate that KTJ’s learning environment and the quality of its teaching allow students to exceed their potential. These statistics place KTJ in the top 4% of all schools worldwide for value added.
KTJ Principal, Dr Glenn Moodie, said:
“We would like to congratulate our Sixth Form students on their exceptional A Level results. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to disrupt education around the world, but our students have, once again, illustrated determination and resilience, and have attained results of which they should be proud. I would also like to thank our teachers for their unwavering support of our students in such challenging circumstances.”
Head of KTJ Sixth Form, Emma Davidson, said, “We are so proud of our students. An incredible 91% of our UK-bound students got their firm choice university, with 39% of them heading to the top London universities of Imperial, the London School of Economics, University College of London, King's College London and Queen Mary. Other top UK destinations include Cambridge, Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester, Warwick, Durham and Bath, where 37% of our UK-bound students will be going. US destinations for KTJers include Harvard, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia and the University of Texas at Austin. This is a remarkable achievement for them given the unprecedented competition for a limited number of places, especially for courses popular with KTJ students such as Medicine, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics and Law. We trust that they will continue to flourish and excel and wish them all the very best.”
Founded in 1991 by three members of the Negeri Sembilan Royal Family, KTJ has consistently flown the flag for high-quality, holistic education with an emphasis on developing responsible, global leaders. Based on an 80-acre site, the School provides an impressive range of academic, performance and sporting facilities.
