Gardening is a great activity to introduce your kids to nature. Gardening with your children will greatly help with their development as they can learn new skills from growing a plant. Start by planting easy to grow vegetables such as salad leaves or onion springs. Once kids start to see the results of their gardening, they will get excited about growing their own vegetables and will want to build a garden of their own.

2. Ride bikes

Cycling has become the go-to activity for many after the pandemic hit as people are taking advantage of the lack of traffic and fresher air as a result of factories slowing down their operations. If you have been enjoying biking throughout this year, it is probably time to get your little ones to develop the same hobby as yours. For a start, take over the road in your neighbourhood before taking your child to a more challenging route!

Adults and children alike can benefit from the entertaining and educational insights provided by the experienced workers at the farm. 5. Walk with pets

Pet walking is a great way to introduce a new responsibility to your kids. This will make them better understand their role as a pet owner and that everyone in the household has an equal responsibility to care for the animals. Kids need to be taught that having a pet is more than just cuddling and throwing balls for them to fetch. Of course, pet walking should be done under your strict supervision as animals can sometimes get aggressive, especially when they’re not in their element.

Indoor Activities:

If you are looking to minimise spending time outside, we have also listed activities you can do with your children at home. It is important to have a list of activities prepared for your kids to do so they can avoid cabin fever while being stuck at home. Check out this list of things to do:

As parents, it can be hard to educate your children about the importance of looking after the environment. This is your chance to pitch the idea to them. Earth Hour is a movement that encourages people to reduce the consumption of electricity, thus bringing environmental awareness to the public.

This year, Earth Hour is taking place digitally on March 27 at 8:30PM - 9:30PM. To participate in this movement, pledge your support Earth Hour 2021 here and switch off the lights for one hour from 8:30PM - 9:30PM this Saturday. While you are joining this event with your family, inform your little ones why such a movement exists and why it is important to show our concern to the world we live in.

2. Virtual Run

Besides switching off the lights to support the Earth Hour movement, you can also participate in a virtual run event with your kids, organised by JustRunLah!. Proceeds from the registration will be channelled to WWF-Malaysia’s crucial conservation efforts.

Why should you join The Earth Hour Virtual Run for Nature with your kids? You can complete the race at your own pace from today to April 15, 2021, so it will not be a pressure on your kids to finish the race in one go. On top of that, the run can be done from the comfort of your home on a treadmill, in case you are reluctant to go out and expose your family to the public during this time. Register now to participate!

Arts and crafts are kids’ bestfriends. Pre-COVID, you may have taken your children on a trip to museums and galleries during school holidays. Fret not, you can still take them to enjoy arts and crafts during the pandemic by attending virtual arts exhibitions organised by National Art Gallery and Maybank. The 360° virtual exhibition will give your family the experience as if you are actually stepping into the gallery and devouring each of the art pieces.

4. Cooking or baking

School holiday is possibly the best time for parents to teach their children how to cook, or bake. For kids, it is usually more fun when they get to be creative with designing  cupcakes and cookies. This activity will not only encourage their imagination and creativity, but it will also be a way for you to bond with your children.

5. Declutter

As parents, you cannot help but feel weary and exhausted when you come home after a long day to a messy living room filled with your children’s Frozen playhouse, building blocks or action figures. Now that your kids have plenty of time on their hands, you can guide them to clean up their toys after they have finished playing instead of leaving things scattered around. Over time, they will get used to this and you will have one less thing to worry about.

School holidays do not have to be so boring, for you and your children. There is always something for everyone! And it is always best when you can spend more time with your kids, doing something that everyone loves. So, start planning ahead!
