Co-Curricular Activities at AISM: Over 50 Ways to Discover What Your Child is Made Of

Ask any educator, and they'll tell you the same thing: the lessons that shape a child most profoundly often don't happen inside a classroom.

At Australian International School Malaysia (AISM), this belief is built into the school's DNA. With over 50 co-curricular activities (CCAs) across sports, arts, music, academic clubs, and leadership programmes, every student at AISM has the chance to find where they shine — and to grow in ways that no exam can measure.

Sports: Building Bodies and Character

Sport is at the heart of life at AISM — a reflection of the school's deep Australian education roots, where physical activity and competition are considered essential to healthy development.

Students can choose from an impressive range of sports including:

  • Team sports: Soccer, basketball, rugby, cricket, netball, touch football, volleyball, softball
  • Individual sports: Swimming, badminton, tennis, yoga, rock climbing, parkour
  • Water sports: PADI open water diving certification (including a dive trip to Tioman Island)
  • Martial arts: Taekwondo, Karate, Fencing

High-performing athletes have the opportunity to represent AISM in interschool competitions, including the Australian International Schools Association (AISA) games and Majlis Sukan Selangor State (MSSS) competitions. The school also hosts its own sporting events: Athletics Carnivals, Swimming Carnivals, Cross Country, and the beloved AISM Family Triathlon — a community event where students and parents compete together.

Football (Soccer) Clinics

Soccer is among the most popular sports at AISM. The school runs dedicated soccer clinics led by specialist coaches, giving students structured coaching, skill development, and competitive play opportunities. These clinics serve students across multiple year groups and have become a highlight of the school's sporting calendar.

Arts: Creativity as a Core Skill

AISM's arts programme is extensive and genuinely exploratory. Students can try:

  • Jewellery making, batik painting, clay modelling, rag work and weaving
  • Creative digital art, oil painting, video game design
  • Adobe Photoshop workshops, embroidery, and Chinese writing

The programme rotates activities each term, meaning students are constantly exposed to new media, techniques, and creative perspectives. Visual arts are not treated as extras — they're recognised as skills that build self-confidence, creative thinking, and emotional intelligence.

Each year, the Junior School holds its own art competition, with winning pieces displayed across the school grounds for the entire community to enjoy.

Academic Clubs and Competitions

For students who want to challenge themselves intellectually beyond the classroom, AISM offers a strong lineup of academic clubs:

  • Model United Nations (MUN): Students represent countries at national and international conferences, developing research, debate, and diplomacy skills. In 2025, a group of AISM students travelled to the Hague to participate in The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) — one of the most prestigious MUN conferences in the world.
  • World Scholar's Cup (WSC): A global academic competition covering six subject areas, where teams compete in collaborative writing, team debates, and a Scholar's Bowl. In 2025, 32 AISM students competed at the WSC Regional Round in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
  • F1 in Schools: Students design, build, and race miniature Formula 1 cars, applying STEM knowledge to a real engineering challenge.
  • Robotics & Engineering: Students design, build, and programme robots, developing computational thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Debating Club, Chess, and more

Community Service and Leadership

AISM students are also involved in Service Learning — community-focused projects that develop empathy, civic responsibility, and real-world leadership. Recent initiatives have included student-led lessons at community centres and collaborative projects with organisations beyond the school gates.

Why It All Matters

Universities don't just look at grades. They look at students who have shown initiative, pursued passions, worked in teams, and made an impact beyond themselves. AISM's co-curricular programme is designed precisely to produce those students.

Whether your child's passion is football, robotics, art, or debate, there's a home for them at AISM.
